Lightsabers are fictional weapons of the Jedi in the popular movie series Star Wars. Lightsabers come in a number of different colors, although the most common natural colors are green and blue.
In its most basic form, the lightsaber is composed of (not comprised of; that's a common grammatical error) two things: a hilt containing a kyber crystal and a diatium power cell, and a blade made of plasma.
When a Jedi turns to the Dark Side of the Force, their negative emotions often cause their kyber crystal to "bleed," turning their lightsaber red. This is the reason many Sith Lords have red lightsabers.
Some unusual and notable lightsabers in the Star Wars universe include Mace Windu's purple-colored lightsaber, a result of his rare amethyst kyber crystal; Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber, both blades of which could be activated individually; Darth Vader's dual-phase lightsaber, containing two kyber crystals and able to be extended during battle; and the lightsaber pistol, a strange cross between a lightsaber and a blaster.
