The period (also called the full stop in British English) is a punctuation mark we all know and love. It looks like this: . Periods are used at the end of declarative or imperative sentences (sentences which, respectively, make a statement or give an order). "I have a cat." "Take out the trash." The period is the most commonly used punctuation mark in English, as almost every sentence ends with it. It is also arguably the easiest punctuation mark to use, so hopefully it won't give you much trouble.
