Is This Website Prescriptive or Descriptive?

We get this question a lot here at thewordiswhom.com: Do we support prescriptive grammar or descriptive grammar? Superficially, we appear to be prescriptive due to our love for traditional grammar rules. However, you'll note that we merely encourage these rules; we do not force you to use them, particularly not in speech. We acknowledge that the word "whom" is not often used in informal contexts. The truth is that we are both prescriptive and descriptive! This is represented in our staff members, who are a mix of prescriptive and descriptive grammarians. We support both prescriptive and descriptive grammar because both prescriptive and descriptive mindsets have their benefits and their drawbacks.
