The words "rend" and "render" are mixed up far too often for us to sleep at night, so we've written this article in the hopes that it will rend these solecisms from your mind once and for all.
The issue is that both of these words have multiple distinct meanings. "Rend" can mean remove from a location, often with force. However, to "rend" can also mean to violently tear into pieces.
To "render," on the other hand, can mean several things:
to provide or give (as in rendering a service),
to cause to be or become (such as rendering a task impossible),
to depict or display (as in Minecraft render distance),
or to melt down fat.
Wow, this is a lot! These two words can be difficult to master, but hopefully this article renders your confusion nonexistent.
